UTags was discovered by Little Kids Rock last week and we had a great conversation on the phone today. They’re a nonprofit provider of free musical instruments to children, based on the premise that Every Child Deserves Music Education.
Based in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, they provide resources to underfunded public schools and have reached 73,000 disadvantaged students in 25 cities throughout the United States. This is one of a handful of educational non-profits that serve the needs of children for something as basic – and enjoyable – as music in the classroom.
The program is fun, cultural and gives kids the chance to participate in an activity that engages both hemispheres of the brain.
